What sunscreen is everyone using this summer?
I am currently rotating between my all time favourite La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF50+, and two new ones: L'Oreal Solar Expertise Active Anti-Wrinkle & Brown Spot Matte Fluid protection SPF50+ (pretty good), and No7 Anti-Dark Spot Facial Sun Protection SPF50+ (also decent). I am pretty happy with those, but since I found out that we will be going to Italy - more specifically Rome, Venice, Florence, and possibly Milan - this Summer I have been panicking as to what sort of sun protection I should be equipped with.
I have always avoided spending ridiculous money on 'designer' sunscreens as the average 50ml bottle lasts me a little over three weeks, but considering the inevitability of spending hours upon hours on foot sightseeing each day whilst under the blinding July sun, I am seriously considering whether the time has come for me to invest in sunscreens from Institut Estherderm or some other fancy niche brand.
I'm currently using the L'oreal matte fluid protection one although my all time favourite is Chanel UV essentiel x
ReplyDeleteI have tried to avoid wearing sunscreen, but it just doesn't work. Last week I didn't put on any sunscreen, but when I got home I felt a burning sensation all over my face. I was even so careful not to go out in direct sun light. I would say play it safe and supplement it by wearing sun protective clothing. I found most of my sun protection while browsing this site http://www.sun-protection-and-you.com
ReplyDeleteI'm using Alba Botanica's new mineral protection. It's a little on the greasy side, but nothing a little blotting can't fix before primer, etc and so far it's worn very nicely under makeup, has no white flash and hasn't broken me out. It's physical only with 14%+ zinc too, so the entire spectrum is covered (and of course, I'm allergic to all the chemical sunscreen ingredients so it's basically one of the very few choices available to me) and honestly for 14% zinc I'm really impressed at the texture.

ReplyDeleteI've tried the Chanel in the past, and had a fairly good experience. It reminded me of La Roche-Posay in terms of consistency, perhaps a little thinner and more milky, but never the less quite similar. The £34 price tag for a 30ml bottle is just crazy though, especially since it would only last me a couple of weeks. I don't know if I can bring myself to fork out that much money for something I wasn't completely in love with.

I think I read somewhere - most likely in a magazine - that if there is enough light to see ones hand, it means there is enough UV rays to damage the skin. I don't know how factual this information is, but it's always stuck with me, and now I won't open my curtains without applying sunscreen LOL. Thank you so much for the link, I will refer to it when I am packing my clothes.

Ooh I've never heard of that brand. I don't think I have come across one sunscreen that isn't a little bit greasy to be perfectly honest, however my biggest pet peeve when it comes to sunscreens is having to wait for it to 'sink in' properly. So frustrating. Chemical sunscreens make my eyes water, I think so anyway, but it sucks that you're allergic!

ReplyDeletePlease check this out! :)
I'm currently using Boots Solait Spf30 for the face, I discovered it a few weeks ago and like it so far! Nice finish and very light feeling. I go through sunscreen quickly because I'm one of those AHHHH SUNLIGHT! Must protect the FACE! kind of people ^___^ and it's about £8-9 for a tube, so far so good!

ReplyDeleteWow that was really insightful, thanks for the link! I am definitely going to be more cautious with sunscreens that contain retinyl palmitate and oxybenzone in the near future.

That's great! I have heard good things about the Boots Solait range, and they had the awesome 'Buy One Get One Free' promotion on sunscreen's a while back.
